THE ICELANDIC HORSE

Originated in Iceland, pure bred for >1000 years

hardy, long-lived, easy keeper

sturdy, big boned, 13 to 14 hands

Five gaits: Walk, Trot, Canter, Tölt, Flying Pace

Brave, confident, loyal, friendly, strong, powerful, forward thinking

Started late (not before they are at least four years old) they usually stay healthy and rideable well into their 20s

Here at Vinur Farm we keep our Icelandics outside in groups of 3 to 8 horses.

Our setup allows for social interaction in their herd, nutrition tailored to each groups needs, shelter from the weather, and movement, movement, movement over varied terrain.

Our foals grow up in a herd roaming the land and navigating natural obstacles which stimulates their nervous system as nature intends and turns them into sure-footed, level-headed, confident horses ready to succeed in the world.

Videos to come :-)

Vinur means friend in Icelandic and we want this farm to be just that: A friendly place, a place to meet and make friends and celebrate the friendship with our wonderful Icelandic horses!
